Former US national swim coach Schubert faces suit

A swimming coach and philanthropist is suing former U.S. national coach Mark Schubert, contending she was wrongfully fired after becoming aware of sexual abuse allegations within his Southern California club.

The lawsuit says Dia Rianda began working for Schubert at Golden West Swim Club last year. It says she became aware of sexual abuse allegations against close friend Bill Jewell and was fired when she tried to keep children from being around Jewell.

A spokesman for Rianda's lawyer says the lawsuit will be filed Monday in Orange County Superior Court. Spokesman Ed Vasquez tells The Associated Press the case is "not about money but rather about making change at the top and protecting kids from predator coaches."

The AP is seeking comment from Schubert.
