On Saturday, a sweet group of friends and family gathered together in St. Pete to throw me a baby shower.
I just noticed this, but everyone on my left are family (my mom and two sisters ? Shannon and Ashlyn), and everyone on my right are friends. You might recognize Caroline and Meghann in the back row -they have both written fantastic recaps of my shower so if you want all the details, you can read them here and here.
I wanted to focus a little less on the details of the day (which were picture perfect, by the way!) but more on the love I felt on this day.
I?ve had a few showers in my life ? bridal showers, baby showers ? but for some reason, a shower has never so filled my heart like this one. I?ve tried to put my finger on exactly what it was that made this one so special.
A lot of it had to do with the hostesses, the best friends a girl could ever hope to have.
Jenn and Katie. We have been friends for years, but then we all had our first babies within three months of each other and that experience brought us closer together than I imagined possible. Despite being busy taking care of their little ones, they found the time to throw me a beautiful shower.
I?ve mentioned before that this pregnancy is completely different than the first one in a number of ways ? and quite frankly, the baby shower experience felt different too. With the first shower, I found myself focused on all the things I?needed and of course, I felt so appreciative of all the things people gave me to help me get ready to welcome the Mini Athlete!
But this time, there is less I need.?I found myself focusing less on the ?stuff? and more on the people who were around me. As I sat at the beautiful table eating brunch, I found myself looking at the women around me and my eyes welled up with tears.
How could I be so lucky that all these women cared so much about ME?
I am thankful for each beautiful gift and for the laughter we shared on Saturday. But most of all, I?m thankful for these women and the unique, wonderful relationships I have with each of them.
One thing I wish for my daughter is that she will someday experience the same depth of love and friendship I have been blessed to have. I am one lucky girl.
Tell me about a meaningful friendship in your life ? what makes it unique and wonderful??
