Mitchell Johnson prepared for a Test recall ? Cricket News Update
Australian pace bowler Mitchell Johnson feels he is better prepared for Test cricket should he get another chance this summer, however he doubts an imminent return to the national Test side.
Johnson, the 30-year-old left-arm speedster has not played a Test match for Australia since November 2011; he has been a regular member of the ODI squad though. His last Test appearance for the Kangaroos had come against South Africa, in Johannesburg last November, where the Queensland fast bowler returned with figures of two for 168.
The gangling pacer has been overlooked by the national selectors in favour of fellow seamers Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus, and young guns Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins.
The major reason behind Johnson?s Test snub was the lack of consistency, but the Queenslander said that his consistency has improved a lot over the last one year.
?I feel a lot more consistent. I think I've shown that in the games that I play, my consistency has improved a lot,? said Johnson while speaking to media reporters on Tuesday.
?I'd love to play Test cricket again. For 12 months the mental side of my game was very scratchy. I've worked on a few little things technically and mentally,? the Queensland paceman went on to add.
Johnson knows his imminent return to the Test set up is not possible, however he is looking forward to pressing his claims for a call-up with some impressive performances this summer.
?I don't know about a Test return this season...it's not really in my hands,? said Johnson who is currently in South Africa, playing for his Indian Premier League Franchise Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Champions League T20.
?The only thing I can do is perform. It's a pretty long summer coming up and after that I think there will be definitely opportunities. I just need to make sure I'm performing at the time,? the left-arm speedster added further.
Michael Clarke and men are scheduled to host South Africa in a three-match Test series in November, before playing Sri Lanka in three Tests and a limited-overs series. Australia?s hectic home summer will be followed by back-to-back Ashes series in 2013-14.
The 30-year-old Queensland pacer has to date played 47 Tests picking up 190 wickets at a relatively expensive average of 31.29.
